8 Weeks of Summer: Moving Forward

This post is week 8 of 8 in the 8 Weeks of Summer Blog Challenge for educators. The question for this week is: what will you keep from the #8WeekofSummer Blog Challenge moving forward?

One of the biggest things I want to keep up with is just writing about my teaching practices on a regular basis. I tried last year, but I was not as diligent as I had hoped to be. I would even post sticky notes around my desk at work with ideas that I wanted to write about and share, but it just seemed like I didn’t have the time to do it. This year, with my Master’s finally finished, and with mostly the same classes that I taught last year, I think I’ll be able to manage it. The blog challenge this summer definitely helped me get into the routine.

Another thing that I appreciated about this blog challenge was how reflective the topics were. It was definitely helpful to think about my own learning experiences and some of the people and places that have contributed to the educator I am today.

The last thing I got out of this blog challenge was a closer connection to some of the people that I consider to be a part of my Twitter PLN. I learned a lot more about @JoyKirr and @readingin6th, and I reconnected with @palan57, who I used to follow regularly (and now will again). During the school year, it’s easy to get wrapped up in our own buildings, or even within the four walls of our individual classrooms. It can be isolating. These online connections have helped me bring in new ideas and perspectives, and I think that’s what I appreciate the most.
