Thoughts on my first Twitter chat

I participated in #titletalk today.

Before it started, I was actually nervous. I’ve never participated in a Twitter chat before. I’m not even sure what to call it. Is Twitter chat the right term? I don’t know for sure. Also, there are famous teacher people in these things. What if Donalyn Miller doesn’t like me? I wondered.

When people started introducing themselves and I saw some familiar names, I felt more comfortable. Thanks, Beth Shaum and Kevin English!

The whole talk was fast-paced and far more exciting than I thought it could be. I don’t know if I have ever seen so many good ideas that I want to borrow or steal in such a short amount of time. I learned about new books that are coming out that I want to read, and something called the Global Read Aloud that sounds very intriguing. I also felt really awesome when other people were replying to me! Penny Kittle even replied to me!

I am so excited about starting the new school year out and all of the ways I am going to work to hook my students on reading.

I think I’m going to make this type of thing a habit.
